The build
The greenest house is usually the one already standing. Straw panels can be fixed to the outside of an existing masonry wall as an over-cladding, taking a leaky solid wall to a whole-wall U-value it could never reach from the inside — and doing it without losing a square metre of floor area.
Because the panels are prefabricated to the surveyed dimensions of the existing building, the wet trades stay off site. The house stays occupied through most of the work.
